Abstract
The Division of Systems and Underwater Technology conducts qualified research and technical development within many sectors of major importance for the future Swedish defence. "Underwater Sensors", "Underwater Weapons", "Guided Weapons" and "Modelling and Simulation" have been the most important research areas of the Division, but contributions are made in several other research areas. The Division is divided into five Departments: the Department of Guidance and Control, the Department of Modelling and Simulation, the Department of Underwater Wave Propagation and Active Sonar, the Department of Passive Sonar, Seismology and Magnetics and from 1 September 1999, the Department of Nuclear Weapon Issues and Detection. These five departments which are the competence-bearing units are described below. In addition, several examples of activities and results from the large number of projects in which the Division takes part are presented. The Swedish Armed Forces is the largest customer of the Division. Other customers are the Defence Materiel Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence as well as other government authorities and companies working within the defence industry in Sweden. It should also be possible to apply the knowledge we gain and the results of our work to other sectors of society. The main purpose of this annual report is to describe the competence and the potential of the Division of Systems and Underwater Technology and the development of that competence during 1999.
