Abstract
The direct environmental impacts from the Swedish defence sector has been described in earlier studies. In order to describe the total environmental impacts from a sector, also the indirect impacts coming from upstream activities as a result of decision taken within the sector, should be included. One example is impacts from production of products used within the sector. The overall aim of this project is to describe the total environmental impacts (including indirect impacts) from the Swedish defence sector. In these initial studies, different environmental systems analysis tools are discussed in order to find suitable methods for evaluating indirect impacts from a sicietal sector. It is suggested that environmentally extended input output analysis with data from the System of Economic and Environmental Accounts can be useful for describing indirect impacts. For assessing environmental impacts from different plans, programmes och policies, it is suggested that Strategic Environmental Assessments can be used. In this report, an initial study of Swedish Defence sector in economic terms is described.
