Abstract

Equipment capable of performing multi cycle experiments on pulse detonation engines are constructed and put together. The engine is capable of running up to 40 Hz, and operates both without any valves and with a reed valve. No clean detonations are obtained, but local peak pressures comparable to those of detonations are obtained. Pressure recordings indicate that premature burning in large parts of the engine can be one reason for the lack of detonations propagating through the whole length of the engine.
