Abstract

Numerical erosion is a technique used in Lagrange codes for handling heavily distorted cells. One of the erosion criteria in AUTODYN uses the so-called "instantaneous geometrical strain". Some properties of this strain is investigated, and we show that this strain can be zero even for cells that have sustained large deviatoric strains.
