Abstract

During 2002 a large part of the environmental work has been directed towards integration of the environmental management system with a system based on ISO 9001 which is being established at FOI. The cost for remediation of land that FOI leaves in Ursvik has been estimated. An environmental impact assessment of FOIs activities in Umeå has been performed in connection with a voluntary trial according to environmental law. FOI has carried through 21 environmental research projects for the defence sector during the year with a total income of SEK 12,5 M. The total amount of the environmental research carried out for the civil sector was SEK 21 M. Of the environmental goals at FOI are 15 listed as connected to important environmental aspects. Eleven of these 15 goals have been fulfilled totally or more than half. The goal to reduce the use of electricity and oil in Grindsjön with more than 2 % has been reached. The use of video meetings has increased from 530 to 743 hours compared with 2001. Key groups of personnel have been educated in environmental management in theory and practice as well as in waste handling. Common environmental courses for all personnel have been given in Linköping, Ursvik and Bromma. A total of 300 persons have attended the courses. This means that 60 % of the employees at FOI now have attended common environmental education. As last year the internal auditor has reviewed the environmental work at FOI.
