Explosives driven electroc generator FOI EMG MK1

Design and testing of an explosives driven electric pulse generator of type magnetic flux compressor is described. This work was done primarily to get experience of explosives driven compact pulsed power for applications in electromagnetic weapons. Some lessons learned from the design and testing of the generator called EMG MK1 are discussed. The performance of MK1 is comparable to what has been reported in the literature for similar designs. For future R&D at FOI with this class of generators it is important that we can use and develop computer based simulation tools especially for calculation of inductances, magnetic and electric fields as well as currents and temperatures in conductors in different parts of the generator.
