Report from the conference Urban warfare 2004-01-21 -- 22

The report describes presentations and impressions from the SMi´s conference Urban Warfare in London 20-22 January 2004. Conclusions and experiences are presented below. - Urban operations will increase. - The civilian population will be there. - Language skills and knowledge of the culture is essential. - Urban warfare is not sequential, "three block war". - The leaders and commanders at lower levels need to have greater flexibility. - Information and intelligence from bottom up. - The assemblance of joint forces. - Training. - The medias covering of military operations. In order to create contacts and to gather more knowledge about Urban Operations, the Swedish Armed Forces should be represented at the conference at least once every two year. The possibilities for a Swedish presentation at the conference are deemed as favourable.
