Abstract

The document describes a generic model of a surface to air missile system (SAM system) using radar guidance. The model is developed for the simulation framework EWSim and is able to perform in a large scenario employing electronic warfare. The missile in the system is command guided to follow a tracking radar's line of sight towards the target (line of sight guidance with remote command guidance). The target to track is assigned by an acquisition radar. The document gives a short introduction to SAM systems and electronic warfare in a SAM system, but is besides that on a technical level. The components in the model, their method of working, the effect on the system by electronic warfare, how they are configured and how they are used in EWSim is presented. A general message structure has been developed for communication between the platforms in the SAM system. The radar model has been validated and the missile model performance is estimated to be reasonable in the launch cases that have been tested. A discussion about the developed model and some proposals for further development concludes the document. One proposed further development is to modify the radar model to allow simulation of semi-active radar guided missiles.
