Abstract

A goal for the Swedish Armed Forces has been to ever increase the use of simulators for the prediction of for example various target signatures. Models and data of such signatures are also of value during feasibility studies prior to the procurement of new systems to meet the threat from selected targets. The present report gives an overview of signatures from submarines, surface vessels and divers. For the latter the results of some measurements are presented. Descriptions of characteristics and various physical mechanisms underlying the signatures are given and regarding divers also connections to measured data are given to some extent. For submarines descriptions of passive and active acoustic signatures, magnetic and electric signatures as well as pressure and wake signatures are given. For surface vessels passive acoustic signatures, pressure and wake signatures are covered. For divers the description covers passive and active acoustic signatures as well as magnetic and electric signatures.
