Abstract

This report summarizes the work within the project Natural environment modeling 2007-2008. The project deals with development of methods and techniques for producing high-resolution environment models from different kinds of sensor data. Particular focus is on methods and techniques that enable rapid and highly automatic data processing for creation of such models. The main results are: Improvement of laser-based object classification through combination of several classification techniques Development of a method for refinement of lidar-based classification result through spectral analysis (using aerial photos) Quantitative analysis of building detection and ground estimation algorithms developed within the environment modeling projects Improvement of the ground modelling process through combination of two different algorithms: One fast method particularly suited for "nice" regions and one slower that is used for tougher areas where the fast method might have failed Improvement of the building modelling process in that algorithms for texturing and colorizing building roofs from aerial photos have been developed Knowledge transfer and support to activities within FOI and the Swedish Armed Forces
