Abstract

Overall energy consumption at FOI has increased from approximately 11 100 MWh in 2009 to approximately 11 400 MWh in 2010. The energy consumption per employee has, however, decreased somewhat. The total amount of carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption and business travelling (including taxi and car transport) in 2010 amounted to an equivalent of approximately 2 900 tons of CO2, or 3 tons per employee. A total of 21 environmental goals have been set by the various divisions at FOI. Out of these, ten have been fully achieved or are more than 50 % complete. Three of them have been presented in the form of ratios. An internal environmental audit has been conducted at FOI's facility in Umeå. The conclusion is that both the facility manager and the tenant consider environmental impacts during their daily work and that energy saving precautions is being continuously made throughout the year. The total costs of environmental work at FOI amounted to SEK 1.4 million. FOI contributes significantly to reducing environmental impacts through its environmental research programs. Thus, in 2010, 12 environmental projects at a total of SEK 18 million were conducted for the defence, while the civilian environmental research comprised a total of SEK 13 million. In all, FOI has carried out SEK 31 million worth of environmentally-related research.
