Abstract

This document describes a control approach that enables small fix-camera UAVs to track moving targets, or, equivalently, to track stationary targets in strong winds. By using a side facing fixed camera, a small UAV can circle stationary targets, at some prescribed distance, while continuously keeping the target in view of the camera. However, if the target moves the two objectives, keeping the target in view and maintaining some prescribed target distance, can be conicting. A control approach designed to achieve a tradeoff between these two objectives has been designed, and is described from a user perspective in this report.
