Blockchains - Are blockchains an applicable technology for military usage?

Blockchains are digital and distributed ledgers for ongoing registrations, in an environment lacking central storage and central management. This facilitates traceability and reliability related to the bookkeeping of different types of transactions. This report provides an overview of the design of blockchains and how they work. Current applications of blockchains and their potential development are presented and discussed. Whether blockchains may have adequate and relevant applications within the Swedish Armed Forces is discussed. This report concludes that the use of block-chains requires that the Swedish Armed Forces considers to what degree they are in need of distributed systems, traceability, confidentiality and high system performance.
