Abstract
Investigating how autonomous and intelligent units will affect command and control requires a holistic perspective focusing on how the chain of command, troops, commanders, operators, and individual soldiers are affected by the introduction of functions with different degree of autonomous or intelligent capability. This report describes three scenarios with different types of autonomous or intelligent units. These units are fictitious, but their design builds on existing systems, technical prognoses, and assumptions on the development of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. A simulation environment has been constructed where these units and scenarios will be realised. The purpose of the simulation environment is to perform demonstrations and workshops with researchers and representatives from the Swedish Armed Forces, where they can interact with the autonomous or intelligent units in the simulated environment. The objective of these types of demonstrations and workshops is to isolate specific research questions, which will be possible to test empirically in the simulation environment.
