Abstract
Under contract to the Headquarters of Swedish Armed Forces the Swedish Defence Research Agency- FOI has made an experimental study where a light fortification was subjected to small arms fire. In the report a prototype of a light fortification in the shape of a protective space for Swedish troop involved in international peacekeeping operations is described. Dimensioned weapon treat against the light fortification is small arms fire with calibre 7.62 mm (lead core). At the tests the protection capacity for high performance concrete and armour against small fire and hand grenade were syudied. One conclusion from the tests is that two layers of 25 mm thick plank of high performance concrete with overlapped joints is needed to give protection against projectiles with calibre 7.62 mm (lead core). Corresponding for armour was two layers of 5 mm thick armour plate (ARMOX 600 T). Furthermore have armour advantages regarding weight and handling and a higher protective potential for more powerful treats compared with high performance concrete. Finally proposals are made for further work, where the protection capacity for high performance concrete and armour against small arms fire with steel core should be studied. Furthermore should the light fortification be loaded with a blast wave from a near hit from a mortar round.
