United States General Accounting Office (GAO ) has evaluated US Department of Defense, (DoD ) research program for detection of land mines. The result is presented in Land Mine Detection, DoD´s Research Program Needs a Comprehensive Evaluation Strategy (www.gao.gov/ GAO-01-239). The objects were to determine whether DoD employs an effective strategy for identifying and evaluating the most promising land mine detection technologies and if DoD is investing in the most promising technologies to fully address mission needs.
