Abstract
This report describes the system design that found the implementation of the measuring and experimental platform that is being developed in the IRmm project. The document presents an overview of the components that the system is composed of. The sensors in the system are an IR camera, a staring millimetre wave radar and a video camera. These are mounted on a platform with two degrees of freedom and are synchronised in time through a special trigger generator. The system design covers the data acquisition and storing software and the target tracking and signal processing software. The design of the data acquisition and storing software is made with regard to real-time performance and modularity of the measuring system. The target tracking and signal processing design is also modular to ensure the possibility of a step by step transition from a trial implementation in Matlab to a demonstration system where target tracking with multiple sensors is performed in real time or almost real time.
