Abstract
The report describes the analysis concerning air warfare within the FoRMA project. Representatives from SwAF, FMV and the defence industries have been involved. An important issue has been to analyse the roles of different kind of units in a PSO operation far away from Sweden. Another task has been to investigate what systems and units that will fit into a future defence structure. This task is connected to the SwAF Long Range Planning Process. Considerable efforts have been made to get descriptions and data concerning aeroplanes, weapon, and anti-air systems. Interoperability is a dominant demand for PSO. The Swedish systems of today are limited, e.g. concerning range. The weapons ought to be better adapted to low intensity conflicts. The future threats might change the balance between different types of anti air system. Also the air defence fighter systems can be affected. A combination of manned and unmanned vehicles is likely to emerge.
