Abstract

Within the contract "Tjänster inom området RF-stridsdel" from Bofors Defence AB, FOI has made an overview of some selected energy storage and pulse shaping components of interest for HPM/RF-applications. Within the given contract limits it has only been possible to make an overview; which is documented in this report. Energy storage and pulse shaping components are needed to power an RF/HPM-source, which often poses specific demands on the level, rise time, and pulse length of the voltage pulse for optimal source performance. The components for electric energy storage treated in the report are capacitors, thermal batteries, permanent magnets, magnetodynamic storages and inductances. The pulse shaping components considered are capacitors, transmission lines, inductances, transformers and switches.
