Abstract

Within the project "Intelligent Munition" a system is studied where fuzing- and seeker sensors (laser, lR, radar,.. .) are integrated into one operational system. During fy 2002 the work has been carried out within several different areas like signal processing and precision guidance, and also consisted of initialising the build-up of a target signature library and making a sensor inventory. This report describes part of this work. During this year we have made the preparations for the forthcoming work on signal processing with focus on target recognition. A simulation environment for IR- and laser-radar has been created in cooperation with other projects at the FOI. We have also made geometric models of some armoured targets, calculated radar signatures from corresponding CAD-models and also calculated polarimetric characteristic from these radar signatures. These characteristics will be used for target classification. Within precision guidance we have investigated how accurately position/heading/orientation and speed can be estimated for a ground target. A target signature library is under construction. The library will contain data from different sensors like: laser, IR and radar, and will in the future contain the whole waveband from UV to microwaves (radar). The work on the sensor inventory is a short review of some wavebands and sensors, with focus on their application for final guidance.
