Abstract
Characterization of 1,1-Diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene (FOX-7) shows that the energetic material has an obvious potential to be used as an explosive ingredient in insensitive munitions formulations. FOX-7 possesses significantly improved insensitiveness compared to RDX, regularly used for comparison. Comparison with other insensitive explosives such as NTO and TATB is also favourable, due to the significantly higher performance of FOX-7. In this report a review of synthesis, analysis, basic chemical and physical properties, possible decomposition pathways, performance and toxicity of FOX-7 are presented.
