Abstract
FOI have preformed two rocket motor tests with Rb 17 "Hellfire" were the motors have been exploded, to asses the risks of injuries for unprotected personnel 20 meters alongside an exploding rocket motor. The two tests differs a lot: For test no 1 the motor separates in two large parts, one that travels forward and one that travels backwards, i.e. in directions that are dangerous even with a normal firing. For test no 2 expels fragment radiali (across the firing direction) were personnel can stand. Risks: Test no 1: The probability that personnel beside the rocket motor would get injured is very small. Test no 2: The amount of fragments is relatively low and so is its velocity and thereby its penetration capability. But the possibility can not be ruled out that big and heavy pieces up to several kilos can get thrown hundreds of meters sideways and thereby hit personnel, with impact and cut injuries as a result! These two tests are not sufficient enough to draw conclusions about the risks of injuries for personnel at RBS 17 firings.
