Abstract

This annual report describes the competence, resources and aims of the Division of Systems technology and some of the high lights during the year of 2002. The subtitle of this report is "A year of consolidation and evaluation". The reasons are because 2002 is the first year of normal operation for the division and an international team has performed a review of the research at the division. The Division conducts research and development within several important sectors for the future Swedish defence. The Division is divided into five Departments: the Department of Autonomous Systems, the Department of Underwater Acoustics, the Department of Nuclear Weapons Issues and Detection, the Department of Naval Sensor Systems and the Department of Systems Modelling. The long-term research activities at these departments are described here. Also, the scientific and technical competence as well as some facilities and equipments are presented in this report. The largest part of the research is financed by the Swedish Armed Forces. Other customers are Ministry of Defence and Ministry for Foreign Affairs as well as other government agencies and companies in the Swedish defence sector.
