Abstract

An all electric combat vehicle (AECV) utilizes electric energy for automotive drive, electric guns, electric armour, prospective electromagnetic weapons, and for the vehicle electronics, sensors, etc. For supplying these components with electric energy a system for generation, storage and distribution of electric energy is required. This must meet the demands each application makes on supply of electric power and the limitations imposed by weight and volume restrictions. This report gives a brief overview of the AECV research area, including possible components in an electric power supply system and which major players are active internationally, points out interesting niches and gives suggestions for direction of future FOI research within the AECV-area. The scanning contains an evaluation, partly of the area itself with an estimation of the difficulties in integration of different subsystems within an AECV-concept and whether there are critical components limiting the access of electric energy, partly of FOI:s possibilities to contribute to the development of the AECV area in Sweden.
