Abstract
This report is the result of a preliminary study that has been done on behalf of the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration. The outset for the work has been to analyse the need for simulations in the materiel procurement process from a logistic viewpoint. To limit the scope, the study has been demarcated to the supply system. In addition to this, the logistics system as a whole has been studied to propose suitable areas for continued analysis and mapping of the needs for simulation. The report enlightens consequences that the changeover of the Swedish defense has on the logistics system and discusses to what degree existing simulation models and tools are still suitable to be used for various logistical analyses. Limitations of the tools are discusses as are the need for new models and methods. Finally, suggestions for future work are given. Among these, can be mentioned, the need for research into logistics simulation at the functional level and how relations between functions and concrete units and materiel systems should be modelled and represented.
