Future under-water weapons - requirements and technical possibilities

Within the project Precision engagement under water, a group has been formed to study future underwater weapons from a broad perspective regarding the needs of the armed forces, tactically and strategically, together with technical prospects and limitations. Technical developments in the areas of sensors, software and electronics enable enhanced capabilities for underwater weapons. The overall goal for the group´s work is to provide support for decisions about priorities within the area, based on cooperation with officers, engineers and operational analysts. In the first phase work has focused on studying scenarios developed by the armed forces headquarter during 2003, in order to identify relevant problems that may be solved with technical systems.
