Abstract

In this report FOI summarises work done for the Swedish Armed Forces during 2004 within the research area Assessment and Operational Research. The research area consists of Operational Research Groups, placed in different parts of the Swedish Armed Forces HQ and of research projects at FOI. The Operational Research Groups have worked with issues related to the 2004 defence bill, long term planning and various studies in the Swedish Armed Forces. In addition the Operational Research Groups have taken part in strategic and operational planning as well as in activities related to the tactical level. The project FoRMA has focused on work related to the defence bill together with long term planning. The project OA-methods has carried out activities in order to develop the OR-competence at FOI together with direct support to OR-groups. The project Principles of Economic Management has studied, the flexibility of organisation and the strategic processes in the area of interaction between Swedish Armed Forces and external actors. The Swedish Armed Forces benefits from the research within the research area Assessment and Operational Research mainly through its planning and decision support function. The 2004 turnover was 46,7 MSEK, of which 32.7 MSEK was the turnover for the Operational Research Groups.
