Abstract

In many situations during out of area missions there is a great need for rapidly erectable and/or transportable field fortifications, which can be used for fighting positions, bunkers and command or observation posts. Also in other situations such as riots or sudden regrouping of military forces is this kind of protection needed. Besides the obvious demand for a protection capability against sometimes undefined weapons effects there are also demands for easy handling and for low cost. In this report a literature survey is made on both threat categories but particularly protection capabilities concerning blast load and perforating objects such as fragments and fine calibre projectiles. The study gives a comprehensive account of protection principles as a basis for more detailed and quantified survey of the potential of interesting principles.
