Abstract
With in the scope of the project Koncept och konfigurationsstudier (KoKoS), a study on the effect of vertical take off and landing (VTOL) have been conducted. The aim of the study has been to highlight the possible problems and benefits possible and the associated demands. VTOL-capacity is judged to be a characteristic of several new future aircrafts. The most likely application will be some sort of vectorised thrust for control of the vehicle. The main argument towards VTOL capability is the need to lessen the dependant upon hard conventional airbases. This feature is especially valuable during operations in areas with little or none infrastructure. The is also a urge to have more forward based airfields, in order to reduce the time required for each mission, which increases the possibility to engage elusive targets.
