Abstract
When evaluating the limit velocity of a target a yawed projectile will severely affect the results. A projectile with yaw tends to increase its yaw due to the oblique forces from the interaction with the plate. This can either cause the projectile to shatter or to overturn; resulting in a degradation of its penetration ability (i.e. the protection material seems better than it is). To measure the yaw of the projectile before hitting the target a camera system has been developed at FOI, Grindsjön. The system will photograph the projectile in two projections at two points of time. The results yield the yaw and the velocity of the projectile. The camera system will be permanently placed inside a tank, where all the equipment will be adjusted to enable automated testing controlled from a distance.
