Abstract

The report presents an experimental mapping of transmission properties of different materials in the frequency range 2-110 GHz. The work has been carried out within the project "Technical evaluation of new sensor abilities to urban warfare". The examined materials were packaging, clothing and building materials. In this report, an investigation of how transmission properties are changed depending on degree of moisture in the material is also presented. This investigation is based on transmission measurements through leather. An analysis of the measurement results shows that lower frequencies are suitable to get efficient penetration through building materials. Very low frequencies are needed for efficient penetration through outer walls and somewhat higher frequencies for efficient penetration through inner walls. Penetration through packaging and clothing materials is high even at higher frequencies. Higher degree of moisture in the material brings lower transmission
