The project "Multimodal interfaces" involves the development of guidelines for operational adjustments of concepts for operator supports, and the present report deals with some general aspects of the concept development of display interfaces. The psychological construct situation awareness and other theoretical attempts of modelling human information processing for action and decision are brought in relation to the development of display interfaces. The concept development involves iterative processes at different levels of system and environment realism including real systems with end-users and experts.
