Abstract

In this report we have investigated the possibility of using radar for detection of objects behind corners. A calculation tool based on UTD has been developed for RCS calculations of objects in a wall egde shadow region. Field calculations have been compared with physical optics and the agreement is very good. The calculations have been made at 1, 5 and 10 GHz. The emitting antenna is a quadratic aperture antenna with a side length of 20 cm. The results show with good margin that it is possible to detect objects in the shadow zone at 5 and 10 GHz. At 1 GHz the radar system must have a very high dynamic range or the object must have a large RCS in order to detect it behind the corner.
