Abstract

Shaped charge warheads is one of the threats that needs to be considered during out of area missions. Due to this it is necessary to predict the penetration performance in different types of protection materials for this type of warhead. Shaped charge jet formation and penetration models are discussed. Also an earlier published empirical jmodel developed at FOI for penetration in protective structures is discussed. Furthermore, experimental results of shaped charge penetration in armour steel, normal strength concrete and high performance concrete are given. Comparisons are also made with earlier published data of shaped charge penetration in concrete and gravel.
