Abstract
Knowledge of Man-made nose is essential in estimation of performance for radio communication and eavesdropping. The ITU recommendation are commonly used in spite of that they are based on measurements made in the 60th and 70th. Since that, a tremendous change in the use of electric devices has occurred. Those recommendations give a statistic measure of the noise level but neither noise variation in space nor the noise characteristics are included. Commissioned by FMV a measurement system was developed and a series of measurements between 1999 and 2007 was preformed. The result shows no dramatic changes in noise levels compared to the ITU recommendation. Noise variation in space, especially in environment dominated by a few buildings, are evident. Also the deviation in noise characteristic is frequent compared to the commonly used characteristics for estimation. This is palpable for frequencies below 100 MHz
