Abstract

This report briefly presents a circuit simulation model of the cable-based pulse generator ("cable generator") built by Adam Lindblom at Uppsala University, financed by FMV and technically administrated by FOI. The model is developed in the simulation software Matlab/Simulink/SimPowerSystems. A model of the cable generator was developed during the construction work by Adam Lindblom using the software PSpice. The main goal of this work is to transfer this PSpice model to a corresponding model using SimPowerSystems. Typical simulation results are presented in the report and a comparison is performed with PSpice to see how well the model describes the cable generator. As an extension and application of the circuit model is also presented simulation results when the cable generator is driving an axial vircator. The simulation results show that the spark gap which connects the vircator will play an important role. Especially, the voltage level for triggering of the spark gap is important in order for the vircator response to be optimal in regards to output power.
