Abstract
The report describes the work in the project "Under water weapons technology and Sea mine disposal" during the years 2007-2009. The work has been devoted to predicting effects of under water explosions, concepts for under water warheads and sea mine disposal techniques. The main focus has been to enhance the knowledge of close proximity effects and validate a computational tool. The work has in parts been performed in cooperation with the Netherlands and Canada within a trilateral agreement. The object of the cooperation has been to share experimental results and resources as well as perform simulations and compare and discuss results and possible improvements. It has been shown that the computational tools have been much improved both with respect to method as well as precision. One conclusion is that due to the rapid computer development it is today possible to perform accurate predictions of the effects from a close proximity charge in an elastic structure. A method to dispose of sea mines as well as unexploded ordnance has been studied and the main advantage is that disposal is performed with a minimum of collateral damage. It is possible since the technique initiated the explosive to burn instead of detonate and therefore it is possible with a reduced safety distance.
