Abstract
In 2009, the FOI overall energy consumption, ranging from approximately 11 300 MWh in 2008 to approximately 11 100 MWh in 2009, has decreased. The energy consumption per employee has also decreased somewhat. The total amount of carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption and business travelling in 2009 amounted to an equivalent of approximately 2 300 tons of CO2 or 2,4 tons per employee, which is a decrease compared to the figures in 2008. As regards the significant environmental aspects, a total of 14 partial goals have been set by the divisions. Out of these, eight have been met, fully or more than 50 %. Three of them have been presented in the form of ratios.. An internal environmental audit has been conducted at FOI´s common reproduction function in Kista. The conclusion is that the reproduction staff is enthusiastically and actively working with environmental issues linked to their own activities. The total costs of the environmental work at FOI amounted toSEK 1,2 million. Out of this sum, SEK 0,3 million was external costs associated with the authorization according to the Environmental Code for the establishment in Grindsjön. FOI would probably more significantly and positively influence the environmental work through the environmental research performed. This research is equally directed at the defence as well as at civilian clients. thus, in 2009, 16 environmental projects at a total of SEK 11 million, were conducted for the defence, while the civilian environmental research comprised a total of SEK 9 million. In all, FOI has carried out research for SEK 20 million.
