The aim of the study was to find solutions for "... the needs to gather intelligence and identify targets, without necessarily open or leave the protection provided by vehicles". A number of micro-situations with different information needs have been identified. Different technical systems solutions are discussed and evaluated based on these scenarios. As an immediate improvement, from the vehicle perspective (you own the sensor resources) a sensor mast solution is recommended. Technologies are under rapid development, particularly for UAV systems. Increased autonomy support and increasing flight times even for small UAV provide hope for strong improvement of situation awareness capability, even down to the lowest unit level.
