Abstract

The aim of this report is to describe the work performed within the project "ricochet properties of small arms ammunition" and to present the status of the project regarding background analysis, methodology and planning of the experimental activities. The goal of the project is to create a traceable set of experimental ricochet data for small calibre ammunition. The data will be used for estimations of weapon danger area according to the regulations of SäkI. The project has during its first phase focused on surveying the literature and other organisations nationally and internationally for background information and future collaborations. Also, planning of experiments and construction of infrastructure for experimental activities has been ongoing. The trials are scheduled to start in September 2011 continuing in 2012 and 2013. In time for the experiments starting in 2012, a doppler radar will have been acquired to the FOI test centre at Grindsjön. This will facilitate improved capabilities to measure and analyze the projectile path before and after ricochet.
