Abstract

As part of the Swedish Defence R&E programme, FOI is acquiring a competence within space situational awareness. The purpose of this report is to highlight the efforts to investigate the possibilities for a Swedish Recognised Space Picture (RSP) capability. The report describes the concept of RSP and how it may be applicable to the Swedish Armed Forces. The architecture of a possible Swedish RSP-capability is delineated, given different levels of ambition and potential international collaboration. Two basic elements of a potential RSP capability are presented, namely Gauss' theoretical method for orbit determination of space objects and an inventory of national facilities that may be useful for the experimental aspects of the capability. Based on the conclusion that there are viable resources and possibilities for a national RSP-capability, the efforts will be continued.
