Abstract

Results from the workshop BeTSSi II, treating benchmarking of target echo strength (TS) modelling for submarines, are presented, along with an overview of the current TS-modelling capability at FOI. A large number of international organisations participated in the workshop with the purpose of evaluating the current state-of-the-art in TS modelling. The benchmarking is performed as computation of the TS for a number of di erent objects, ranging from very simple objects, to more complex ones, including a generic submarine with inner structures. Several codes are used to tackle these modelling tasks, including approximative codes, such as Kircho -approximation codes and raytracing codes, as well as full eld codes (boundary integral equations/ nite elements). The results clearly illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the various modelling approaches, and demonstrate the current modelling capability at FOI in relation to the capability of the other participating organisations.
