Abstract

A new version of the Tactical Decision Aid (TDA) SonTak has been developed. The new version is called SonTak version 3 (SonTak_v3). The improvements are mainly twofold. First of all, the possibility to use databases regarding bathymetry, bottom sediments and historical averages for sound velocity is now implemented. Secondly, SonTak_v3 is equipped with newer wave propagation models which are rangedependent in depth and geo-acoustic properties. There are large similarities in the user interface between the old and the new version. However, to simplify for the user a oneclick principle is used: one click, one calculation. The new version of SonTak is a member of the Combis-family and uses common modules, files and folder structures. A major component of the new version is SSF (Sensor Support Function) which is a newly developed concept for handling scenarios, calculations and treating output data from the calculations. The communication with SSF is done with key-word coded text files and output is also stored in plain text. The module SSF is Governmental Furnished Equipment (GFE) and is thought to be the backbone in future TDAs (as done in SonTak_v3) and could be used in combat management systems for increased situational awareness.
