Abstract

This report summarizes work conducted during the second, of three years, in a project aimed at investigating information needs and information presentation techniques for dismounted soldiers and groups of soldiers. The report focuses on a literature review and a longitudinal study of the usage of a Blue Force Tracking system at the platoon level. The literature review consists of a survey of interaction techniques suitable for soldier systems. It also highlights the technological readiness of such solutions in the perspective of positioning and estimation of direction. Results from the longitudinal study are presented. The report further describes a number of additional activities aimed to increase knowledge about soldier systems and approaches to evaluation and experimentation with such systems.
