Abstract
The project "SAR techniques" has been conducted during a three-year period, 2015-2017. The aim has been to increase knowledge about synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for imaging of stationary and moving targets from an airborne platform. In particular, we have investigated passive SAR in order to avoid actively transmitting radar signals. Non-cooperative transmitters are used instead, e.g. digital TV signals, which illuminate the ground. The technique has been evaluated by flight experiments with promising results. We have shown that both ships and ground vehicles can be imaged by passive SAR. Moreover, we have developed signal processing methods for imaging of moving targets and for improving image quality with autofocus. The project has also contributed to several NATO groups in the area of passive radar.
