KUPAL

The Defense Knowledge Portal (Kupal) project originates from the need to increase the dissemination of R & D results between the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Material Administrations, the Swedish Defence Research Agency and the Swedish Derence University. The aim was to increase accessibility to the information acquired within the authorities regarding research and study results as well as governing documents in the form of manuals and regulations. Furthermore, information about defense-related equipment would be available and lessons learned reports. To solve the task, a web-based portal was developed with powerful internal crosslinks between the information objects and with an advanced search engine. The stakeholders would contribute with information that the authority found to be of interest to share. The portal, named Kupal, is accessible only through special interfaces over the internet and only contains unclassified information. The Armed Forces decided in 2017 that the gateway to Kupal would be removed and as a consequence, the Kupal project expires 2017-12-31 and the system may disappear completely. This report provides a presentation of Kupal, its functionality and structure as well as reflections on a possible future for a knowledge management portal as Kupal.
