This report presents research carried out within the project (Ku2016/01373/D - Uppdrag till Totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut (FOI) att göra kartläggningar och analyser av våldsbejakande extremistisk propaganda) that has been assigned to the Swedish Defence Research Agency by the Swedish Government. This purpose of this report is to give an overview about the Muslim Brotherhood from a religious history perspective to increase the knowledge an organization that is hard to study and an area where limited research have been conducted. The overview describes the development of Muslim Brotherhood in various countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Syria, Algeria, Tunisia along with the development of the movement in Europe and Sweden. This overview also addresses influential ideologists and thinkers that might have influenced the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe and, finally, there is a study of how the Swedish media writes about the Muslim Brotherhood.
