Abstract
In 2011, the Swedish Fortifications Administration published a manual for design and construction of facilities with requirements on protection from various weapon effects. This manual is the Fortifikationsverkets KonstruktionsRegler (FKR). FKR defines large projectiles as projectiles with a caliber surpassing 20 mm, which separate that group of projectiles from projectiles in the small arms range. The term large projectiles may be considered too indefinite in this context, but is used throughout this report in order to harmonize with FKR. The part of the manual concerning penetration of large projectiles in concrete structures is under review for possible updates of the models presented in the manual. This report reviews the contents of FKR concerning models and parameters associated with concrete penetration from large projectiles. Further, an overview literature study has gathered a number of empirical and semi analytical models for estimating concrete penetration from large projectiles. The models are disclosed in this report, along with references to both previously performed overview studies, and the sources of the models. Using relevant sets of penetration data, the disclosed models can be compared to evaluate their feasibility and suitability in relation to the requirements of FKR. In addition to the overview literature study, a number of possible flaws or errors within the FKR are illuminated, some of which could be remedied without significant effort.
