Abstract
This report is part of ongoing work to identify needs and provide recommendations on the design of an infrastructure that supports studies within the field of command and control (C2) science. In this report, infrastructure refers to staff, processes, premises and technical systems that support C2 research. This report presents a study that compares identified needs on a national level with needs identified from international scientific publications from the previous decade. There are similarities and differences between identified needs. The similarities concerned general needs that are observed in many C2 studies, whereas the differences mainly concerned needs specific to C2 research at FOI, such as the terminology regarding support functions rather than actual research tools. The analysis demonstrated that only five of the ten needs identified by FOI were found in the literature: flexible physical design and IT-architecture, methodology support, technical needs and interoperability, as well as training, exercises and evaluation. The needs not found in the literature were coordination responsibility, financial model, confidentiality, internal collaboration and external communication.
