Abstract

A compilation has been carried out of a number of experimental studies of the resistance of building walls to explosion loads. The experimental studies focus on one-way action concrete slabs. Both experiments with simply supported elements in full scale without in-plane axial load, and elements in 1:4th scale with fixed supports and with in-plane axial load are included. Experimental results of wall deflections and support reactions have been compared with calculations based on single degree of freedom analysis. One parameter that may affect wall resistance is the in-plane axial load of the walls. The importance of in-plane axial load for deflections and support reactions is discussed.
